Rusty
12/12/2003

Last week I received a call from Mark in Orlando, Florida.  Marks wife had found a chow mix dog running down the road in heavy traffic.  She stopped to rescue him and brought him home. He was taken to the vet, cleaned up and checked for illness.  He seemed healthy and well cared for.  They had put fliers up and checked all the sources for someone missing a dog.  There were no responses.   Mark called me to see if we could figure out his story.

Mark had named his new friend Buddy. I asked Buddy to share his story.  He showed me the image of a man in a military uniform.  He was with two children and they were all saying goodby.  Buddy said the man was his companion and that he was being sent overseas and that those were his two children.  Buddy told me he was left with someone the man knew and then was taken south in a car (he said the man in the uniform was in Georgia).  He said that he escaped because he didnt like the person hed been left with.  He also described Marks family and said hed love to stay with them.  The session ended on that note.

Mark called yesterday, very excited.  He had taken Buddy back to the vet to check for heartworms.  This time the vet discovered that Buddy was chipped!  Micro Chips are something every one of our companion animals should have.  If they ever get lost, they can be traced.  Mark found out that Buddys real name is Rusty and that Rusty was about 10 years old.  He had originally been with a family that had rescued him from certain death at the pound.  Then several years ago he was given to the man who had lost him:  The man was a soldier!  And has two children.  When Mark tried to track down the soldier, he found out that he had been sent to Japan and had left Rusty with his father, who had taken him to Orlando, and then lost him!  Just like Rusty had explained!

Mark is going to reunite Rusty with his original companion. They live on a farm and have another dog.  They loved Rusty and were very upset to hear that he had been left by the soldier.  They asked if he could come back to them (Rusty remembers them and still loves them).  Mark and his family are going to take Rusty to the familys farm and meet with them.  They will judge the situation and make their decision then.  After all, Rusty has become a very special new friend
