Yoda Gets A New Home
10/1/2002

Yoda, a white and black Heeler mix, was 10 years old when I first communicated with her.  David, her guardian, left her with Leslie to  be taken care of while he travelled.  That arrangement worked well for two years.  Yoda loved visiting with Leslie and her dogs.  She loved the comfort of a home and the security of a routine.  At first she missed David, but after  few months Yoda began to adjust to his coming and going.

Two years passed with this arrangement.  Yoda began to age and in July was bitten by a rattlesnake.  Although she survived the bite with herioc efforts on the part of Leslie, she was left weakened.  Leslie had me check out Yoda's condition and when I did I "felt" that her kidneys were very stressed. In the meantime, David expressed his interest in having Yoda come live with him full time, even though he still travelled extensively, and basically lived out of a camper. Leslie had me talk with Yoda about her feelings of going with David.  Yoda made it clear that she was in no shape to travel. Yoda had come to need the security of her new home.  Leslie talked with David.  David talked with me.  As sad as it was for him, David realized that Yoda was truly in no condition to be going on such varied adventures. He agreed to allow Leslie to become Yoda's guardian.

Yoda is very happy with the new arrangement.  David still visits her and she gets to spend her days dozing in her own doggie bed right next to Leslie's home desk.  Yoda feels so grateful to have the love of Leslie and David both in the twilight of her life.
